Environmental education

YAQU PACHA and environmental education in species conservation | We not only work in South America and Latin America to help endangered animal species, but also to make people aware of how important it is to preserve nature.

YAQU PACHA has been promoting environmental education programs in various countries (Brazil, Uruguay and Chile) for many years.

YAQU PACHA sees environmental education as the only and most sustainable way to anchor the idea of nature conservation in the population in the long term.

The situation of these people has deteriorated drastically in recent decades. Dangers such as overfishing, bycatch and increasing contamination of the waters mean that their jobs are at risk in the long term.

The underlying strategy is to get people interested in the natural treasures of their own country by providing targeted information and demonstrating natural interrelationships. In its practical implementation, environmental education must deal with the local conditions and the social, cultural and economic circumstances of those affected. The main aim of the educational process is to encourage people to take action through knowledge.

The environmental education concept comprises various levels, such as lessons in schools, workshops with teachers, education in the fishing community and information events with the authorities.

We have already implemented an important project together with the Uruguayan government.

PROJECT 1 - "Ocean at school" and PROJECT 2 - "Digital ocean"

Anthropic activities in the coastal and marine environment are causing environmental impacts and the difficulty of managing these environments is being discussed worldwide. As a result, scientific and social movements have emerged in recent decades, such as Ocean Culture and the Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, in addition to Goal 14 - Life in Water - of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

One of the cornerstones for realizing the goals of these movements in environmental education is the dissemination of the importance of this environment for society. This process can be understood as scientific literacy that enables individuals to make connections with the world around them. In this context, the "Oceano na Escola" project aims to promote environmental awareness in public schools in the state of Espírito Santo in south-eastern Brazil and the "Oceano Digital" project aims to promote digital scientific knowledge about ocean science to the public using social media.
