YAQU PACHA and environmental education, or environmental education in species conservation | We work not only in South America and Latin America to help endangered species, but also to make people aware of how important it is to preserve nature.
YAQU PACHA has been promoting environmental education programs for many years in various countries (Brazil, Uruguay, and Chile).
YAQU PACHA sees environmental education as the only and most sustainable way to embed the concept of nature conservation in the population in the long term.
In recent decades, the situation for these people has deteriorated dramatically. Threats such as overfishing, bycatch, and increasing water contamination mean that their jobs are at risk in the long term.
The underlying strategy is to inspire people to appreciate their country's natural resources by providing targeted information and highlighting natural connections. In its practical implementation, environmental education must address local conditions and the social, cultural, and economic circumstances of those affected. The main goal of the educational process is to encourage people to take action through knowledge.
The environmental education concept encompasses various levels, such as teaching in schools, workshops with teachers, education in the fishing community, and information events with the authorities.
We have already carried out an important project together with the Uruguayan government.
Environmental education in Brazil

In Brazil, we work together with the ECOLOGIA HUMANA DO OCEANO team on species conservation and support their work in environmental education with children and local people.
PROJECT 1 – “Ocean at School” and PROJECT 2 – “Digital Ocean”

Anthropogenic activities in coastal and marine environments cause environmental impacts, and the difficulty of managing these environments is being discussed worldwide. As a result, scientific and social movements have emerged in recent decades, such as Ocean Culture and the Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, in addition to Goal 14 – Life Below Water – of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

One of the cornerstones for achieving the goals of these movements in environmental education is spreading awareness of the importance of the environment to society. This process can be understood as scientific literacy, which enables individuals to establish connections with the world around them. In this context, the "Oceano na Escola" project aims to promote environmental awareness in public schools in the state of Espírito Santo in southeastern Brazil, and the "Oceano Digital" project aims to promote digital scientific knowledge about ocean research among the general public through social media.

You can find out more on Instagramand the YouTube channel of our partners ECOLOGIA HUMANA DO OCEANO to achieve the goal of spreading ocean culture, as set out by the Decade of the Ocean. By spreading knowledge, a greater awareness of the environment is developed in various social groups, creating a collective environmental identity for people as part of nature.
Environmental education – Environmental education in species conservation is one of YAQU PACHA's main tasks, and we have been active in Latin America for 30 years, helping animals and people there. You can support our projects through a donation, membership, or our merchandise. Learn more about our work in our videos.
