Species protection

The species protection organization YAQU PACHA - Organization for the Protection of Dolphins and Aquatic Mammals | YAQU PACHA e.V. has been involved in species protection and the protection of endangered aquatic mammals, such as dolphins in South America and Latin America, respectively, since 1992.

It all started with the Sacha Pacha (Jungle World) project in the Cuyabeno Nature Reserve in the rainforest of Ecuador. We have worked there for many years as a conservation organization for the protection of the Amazon dolphin, giant otter and the Amazon manatee. Their survival is severely threatened by uncontrolled oil production and the destruction of their habitat.

For our species protection organization YAQU PACHA it has always been an important concern and a main task of our species protection organization to save animal species from extinction. In order to achieve this goal in species conservation, YAQU PACHA develops and supports conservation projects in South America that are focused on the species, the habitat and the people.
According to the motto of our species conservation organization: Man is the problem - man is the solution, it is our credo that sustainable conservation can only succeed if people recognize the value of preserving biodiversity. Therefore, it is important to involve the local population in species conservation.

Our thinking and approach to dolphin species conservation follows a simple strategy: identify a problem that threatens the survival of a species, conduct scientific research and provide results to develop strategies to eliminate the threat. In parallel, we try from the beginning to encourage people to participate in the process by understanding the problem and providing solutions, ultimately becoming the guardians of biodiversity.

YAQU PACHA also promotes scientific exchange, whether through the organization and funding of workshops, congresses and scientific journals. As local capacity building is important, our organization also supports training opportunities for local biologists and scientists.
