Since 1992, YAQU PACHA has been committed to protecting aquatic mammals and their habitats in Latin America. For 34 years, we have been combining scientific research, long-term species conservation efforts, and collaboration with local communities.
We support conservation programs, the rescue and rehabilitation of animals, environmental education, and the development of expertise and local capacity. This also includes projects that involve people whose daily lives and livelihoods are closely tied to these animals and their habitats.
Together, Research Leads to Effective Species Conservation
Without collaboration, this work would not be possible. Species conservation requires strong and sustainable networks that connect field researchers, conservation organizations, universities, rescue centers, zoological institutions, and dedicated individuals across countries and continents.
By sharing knowledge, experience, and resources, these networks help translate scientific findings into effective protective measures.
Looking at Animals, Ecosystems, and People Together
Together with our partners, we have learned that protecting a species goes far beyond protecting individual animals. It also means understanding animal populations and their development, reducing threats such as bycatch in fishing nets and habitat loss, supporting local communities, and developing long-term, sustainable solutions.
Successful species conservation must take a holistic view of animals, ecosystems, and people. This understanding shapes our collaboration and our commitment to aquatic mammals in Latin America.
